Stevensburg home was spared but a nearby shed was destroyed in a fire late Wednesday night.

Brandy Station Volunteer Fire Department responded first at about 10:44 p.m. and found a shed engulfed in 40-foot flames when they arrived at the scene. Captain Gordon Mackison said that the shed was 30 feet from the house, which is located on the 15000 block of Stevensburg Road.

“We kept it from actually getting to the house,” said Mackison. He said that the shed and its contents were destroyed, which included mowers and yard equipment. Mackison estimated the damage to be around $20,000. There were no injuries to responders or residents as a result of the fire.

To keep a continuous flow of water, responders used tanker shuttles to transport water from fill stations to a dump tank where they drafted water to fight the fire. Mackison said that they used about 15,000 gallons of water and that it took about 2.5 hours to put out the flames.

Culpeper County Sheriff’s Office public information officer, Corey Byers, said Friday that they are not currently investigating the incident.

Mackison said volunteer emergency personnel from Reva, Salem, Remington and Culpeper also responded.
